1.Were you active prior to Cross Fit?
Scott: Prior to crossfit I was active in sports such as lacrosse, baseball, swimming, and weight lifting.
Erika: I was a competitive cheerleader for 11 years, and ran track in high school. There was a period of time after college that I was no longer active, until I joined CrossFit.

2. When did you first start doing Cross Fit?
Scott: Approximately 3 years ago.\
Erika: I started 3 years ago, but did not go consistently until about 2 years ago.

3. What were your thoughts after your first workout?
Scott: I need a nap
Erika: I can’t do this. I think I am going to die. But, I want to come back and try again tomorrow!

4. What do you enjoy the most about Cross Fit?
Scott: The community and friendships that are forged through pain and suffering.  I also enjoy the variety of having a different workout every day and the group atmosphere that pushes me harder than I would push myself.
Erika: I could not say it any better than Scott. That is exactly why I love it too!

5. What were your goals when you first started?
Scott: To learn the proper technique for each movement and get better at them each day.
Erika: When I first started, I just wanted to get through the workouts without actually considering quitting because it hurt so bad. And honestly, what I wanted more than anything was to be able to do an unassisted pull up. Just one.

What are they now?
Scott: Same as when I first started….and to finish the WOD before Erika.
Erika: My goal is always to beat Scott! More importantly, my goals include working on technique and making overall progress. It does not always have to be a PR, but feeling more confident with my lifts and the movements is most important to me. I know improvement in technique means improvement in my numbers.

6. What is your favorite Cross Fit movement?
Scott: Rowing and Toes to Bar.
Erika: If I had to pick one it would be the Snatch.

7. What is your least favorite movement?
Scott: Cleans…when they are in a workout with other movements.
Erika: Running! (Yes I ran track….)

8. What kind of nutrition plan do you follow and has that changed since you started Cross Fit?
Scott: I have been doing Paleo-ish for about 5 or 6 years. Since starting crossfit I have joined a community of people who are concerned with nutrition and fitness so that has helped me continue to eat more Paleo than ish. I believe nutrition is a huge part of fitness and the emphasis on eating healthy in the crossfit community, along with my wife’s wonderful cooking and meal prep, has completely changed my eating habits.
Erika: Like Scott said, we have been eating Paleo-ish for a long time, and I also tried the Zone diet, but recently I cut out added sugar, and started counting my macros, and this has helped tremendously with how I feel during workouts and throughout the day. Nutrition is a never ending learning process for me and I enjoy making tweaks to my diet in order to see improvements in my workouts. I know I still have a lot to learn!

9. Talk about your results from doing Cross Fit?
Scott: Since starting crossfit I have become healthier all around.  Crossfit is the only program I have followed where I have had noticeable strength gains and losses in body fat.   It has also become something that my wife and I enjoy doing together.  We have met wonderful friends through crossfit and now own more gym clothes than regular clothes.
Erika: CrossFit has changed me in so many ways. Of course the most obvious result from CrossFit is the gain in muscle mass and the loss of a lot of body fat. However, CrossFit has also resulted in a lifestyle change. Doing the things I love so much, like hiking and climbing, are even more enjoyable because I have better endurance. It has also given me more confidence when it comes to pursuing my goals outside of the gym. Once you start doing CrossFit, you start being able to do things you never imagined possible before, and therefore you become a mentally stronger human being. And of course CrossFit has resulted in an awesome group of friends who we consider family. And yes, like Scott said, CrossFit has also resulted in the purchase of a lot more Lululemon and Reebok!!!!
